"Reading with the Rev"
Tuesday, July 26, 7:00 pm, on Zoom - The Essex Serpent, by Sarah Perry
Join Pastor Ron and other Epiphany readers once a month as we explore themes of faith and life in works of fiction and non-fiction. This summer, we read Sarah Perry’s The Essex Serpent. After the death of her husband in London in 1893, Cora Seaborne seeks refuge in the fresh air and open space of costal Essex. Once there, she hears rumors that the mythical Essex Serpent has returned. As she investigates, Cora meets parish vicar William Ransome. He, like Cora, is suspicious of the rumors, but for different reasons. He’s a man of faith and is convinced that the alarming reports are caused by moral panic, a flight from the correct and righteous path. Together, Cora and William attempt to discover the truth about the Essex Serpent’s existence. Along the way, they explore questions of science and religion, skepticism and faith, and the surprising guises love can take. Please contact the office or see weekly announcements/e-announcements or Star newsletter for the Zoom link/Meeting ID.
